Revelation’s math problem that must be solved in order to complete our understanding of the New Testament

When solving a math equation or problem e.g. x + y = 10, one usually goes through a series of steps before arriving at the final answer proving that the values of x and y add up to a value of 10. When the two values do not add up to 10, then you realize that you have made a mistake somewhere in the prior steps to arriving at the final answer.  Perhaps you have misunderstood something, miscalculated something or misinterpreted a figure.  The final answer will prove if everything prior has been done right.

When one reads through the New Testament, the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; the Epistles of Apostle Paul, everything seems alright, everything seems to be on track, we feel good about ourselves until we finally arrive at the book of Revelation! Then things begin to look different! This final book of the New Testament is supposed to be the crowning glory of all the books we have read prior, validating our understanding of the principles of the New Covenant of Salvation by Grace through faith. Meaning, X + Y should be equal to 10.

But on the contrary what we find in the book is startlingly completely different from anything we have read in the New Testament. We no longer hear words or phrases like “we are saved by Grace”, “whoever is baptized will have everlasting life”, “whoever confesses Jesus is Lord will be saved”, “we are not under law we are under Grace”, “whoever believes in Him should not perish but have an everlasting life”, “the just shall live by faith”, “we are covered by the blood”, “law was nailed to the cross”.

All these expressions somehow vanish in the book of Revelation and is replaced by new terminology and phrases like ”whosoever does not keep the words of this book shall receive the plagues”, “anyone who worships the beast or his image or receives the mark of the beast shall be tormented by fire and brimstone in the presence of the Holy angels and the lamb, and the smoke of their torment shall ascend forever and ever”, “Babylon is fallen”, “the Whore of Babylon”, “seven seals”, “those who keep the commandments of God and have the Testimony of Jesus Christ shall triumph over the beast and His image”, “seven trumpets”, “seven plagues”, “beast with seven heads and ten horns which comes out of the sea“, “beast that comes out of the land” etc etc.

These mindboggling terms are thrown all over the place in the book and it does not follow any particular format. Meaning X + Y is not equal to 10 as initially thought, and unfortunately this is the last book of the New Testament, there’s no other book after that, heck, what do we do??!! Our x + y ≠ 10.ben-white-197668-unsplash

What are Christians supposed to do? Are we not supposed to follow the maths principle and go back to check what we have misunderstood, misrepresented or miscalculated prior? Maybe we have made an error in our understanding of “Salvation by Grace through Faith”, “We are not under the law we are under Grace”. Aren’t we supposed to recheck all these facts to make sure they are in harmony with all scripture? Instead Christians have either totally shut up this book, never to read it or study it. Or Some have said that the words of this book do not apply to Christians who will be secretly raptured to heaven but to only those Jews who will be “left behind”. So, because of these reasons, Christians have not bothered to understand these terminologies, to know how they apply to the whole harmony of God’s word.

But in Matthew 5:18 Jesus Christ says, “For verily I say unto you, Till. heaven and earth pass, one jot or one. tittle shall in no wise pass from. the law, till all be fulfilled.” The contemporary English Version says “Heaven and earth may disappear. But I promise you not even a period or comma will ever disappear from the Law. Everything written in it must happen.”

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” Matthew 24:35

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8

All these bible quotations above tell us that we shall witness the fulfilment of God’s words in its entirety before heaven and earth pass away (the end). Which means everything in the book of Revelation applies to us now just us the Gospels, Epistles, etc apply to us today.  There will be no escape secret rapture for anyone as being preached.  We will see the plagues with our eyes, we will see the fall of Babylon.

Just as the diligent math student will go back to the prior steps in the math problem and see where the mistakes are in order to fix them, so must the diligent bible student also go back to the bible to find the meaning of all the terminologies written in the book of Revelation to understand its meaning. According to 2 Peter 1:20 which states “knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation”, it implies that the word of God is not subject to private interpretation, but by God’s own interpretation that we must find meanings from the bible itself.

Most of the quotations or words in the book of Revelation, Beast, Plagues, Babylon, Trumpets, etc meanings are all taken from the Old testament.  Christians have found it convenient to think that the Old Testament is not applicable, but the book of Revelation takes us back to understand the principles contained there in order to conclude our understanding of the New Testament. Our God is a really smart God, isn’t He? He says, just as the heavens are farther from the earth, so are my thoughts and my ways farther than yours.

If we claim we truly love God and want to know Him and obey Him, we must make the time to find the meanings of these words in the book of Revelation. When we understand the meaning of these words in the book of Revelation, will would then be able to go back to correct the mistakes and come in line with the true meaning of God’s Amazing Grace and plan of Redemption and truly understand the New Testament principles of the New Covenant. That is proving that indeed X + Y = 10.  Revelation completes the New Testament and the whole bible seamlessly without any hitch. We are being called into a Royal Priesthood, we cannot rest, we have to make it, we must get to the work of studying the bible diligently and praying fervently for God’s spirit to lead and guide us.

We do not have much time on our hands, so we must act now! Going back to the basics and getting in tune with the concluding plan of redemption so we do not miss out. God bless you!

  1. So this is explaining the what but not the how. I guess that’s the mystery!!! Revelation is a profoundly spiritual book filled with excitement, joy, sadness etc. Though some of the scriptures of this book humble and yet terrify me, it continues to be one of my favorite books of the Bible and one that I find we may be living and being led through today!

    1. Thanks very much for your comment. Yes Revelation is the climax of story between good and evil. We are blessed to be living in these times to see the Word of God come alive and play out. We did at three-part series on the subject, please check it out and let’s know what you think if you get the chance. God bless you once again.
