Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy pt.5/10

We are only able to forgive others and be merciful to them once we have understood the righteousness of God. If we find it hard to forgive others when they wrong us, then it implies that we have not understood the righteousness of God yet.

In today’s world we here talk about censorship and hate speech etc., and vitriolic on social media, anyone is able to insult a sitting U.S President who is a servant of God according to Romans 13.  It sounds like a fulfilment of what Isaiah wrote, 3:5 “The people will oppress one another, man against man, neighbor against neighbor; the young will rise up against the old, and the base against the honorable.” Instant justice is being meted out to who are trying to make ends meet, no tolerance for political opponents.

In Prov. 24:29 we are told “Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.”

Where is the forgiveness and love? As believers one of the distinguishing aspects, we have to show these days is to be merciful to others…Other religions cannot boast of this teaching; we see retribution and swift judgement.  Stephen the first martyr prayed for forgiveness to those who were stoning him to death!

To err is human but to forgive is divine.  Yeshua said “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”.  We ask Yeshua in the Lord’s prayer to “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”. Forgiveness is not easy at all especially when the one who hurts us does not apologize for it that is why it is a divine act which God calls his follower to show the world.  When Yeshua came to earth he raised the standard, he asked us not to only show love to those who love us but to rather.

  • Love your enemies!
  • Bless them that curse you.
  • Do good to them that hate you.
  • Pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
  • But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

With our human minds and flesh we cannot achieve these by ourselves, but with God all things are possible, and we can show the higher standard as followers of Yeshua, and this we shall be able to do when we allow the Ruach to work through us to understand the righteousness of God.  The spirit will teach us that people fall into sin because they are deceived by the devil and the enemy and used to accomplish wicked purposes, and when we understand that we pray that God forgives and saves them because the wrath of God is very scary which we would not wish anyone to fall into as Hell was created for the Devil and his angels but because men fall into sin, they end up going there. We all need the mercy of God and we can be assured of that if we show others mercy as well.

If we daily plead with God to have mercy upon us, we will be mindful to daily have mercy on our fellow brothers and sisters who wrong us. In James 2:13 “For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”

And when we become merciful to others, and obtain mercy from God, then we become pure in heart….and scripture says….
