The Sermon on the Mount as we have come to call it, is a re-enactment of Exodus 20, the giving of the Torah, the Ten Commandments to the children of Israel on mount Sinai. It is the Ten Commandments repackaged and reloaded. Someone will say “how dare you make such a claim?!!” Well in this short piece we will show you without a doubt through the inspiration of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit).
Given by Same Godhead, The Son of God
First, we know that the Sermon on the Mount and the Ten Commandments were both given by the same person of the Godhead, Jesus Christ. We learn this from the book of Hebrews 12:25-26 which states:
“25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: 26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.”
The prior passage tells us that the one who shook the earth when He spoke on Mount Sinai[1], has now promised that he will be returning once more to shake this time, both the heavens and the earth, and we know that it is Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus Christ, who will be returning in the second coming![2] If Jesus Christ is the one who will be returning to shake the heavens and earth in his second coming, then it is the same Godhead Jesus Christ who shook the earth from on top of Mount Sinai! Because he says yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. Many have thought it was God the Father who descended upon mount Sinai to give the Torah. However, from Hebrews, we know that is not the case because it is not God the Father who will be returning in the second coming but the Son.
The Father has always sent the Son on these important errands, from Creation in Genesis, in which through the Son the Father Created the heavens and the Earth, the fountains of water and all living things, principalities, dominions, and powers. Colossians 1:16-17:
“16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by, him all things consist.”
If the Father created the heavens and earth through the son, which is a far greater spectacle and mission, how much more sending the son to present His Father’s law to the chosen children of Israel? I rest my case!!
Yeshua is the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us[3] and being the Word (10 Commandments, Torah, Love), He is the embodiment of the love of the father and the love of the neighbor in that, it was through love that the father gave Yeshua his Son to us (John 3:16) and it was through the love of His neighbor that Yeshua accepted or volunteered to come (John 14:14) because he calls us his friends and died for us. That is how Yeshua is the Word (10 Commandments) made flesh. He is the walking Ten Commandments which is the love of the father[4], and love of the neighbor and he was here to show us how to love the father and how to love our neighbor. Love began with God the Father who through His Son, created the world (heavens and earth) and us in the beginning.
Both Given on a Mountain
Secondly, the setting of Exodus 20 and Matthew 5 is similar, i.e., Yeshua on a Mountain with his disciples (angels), and the multitude below the Mountain. Matthew 5:1-2 “And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a Mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying … and in Psalm 68:17, we learn that the fires seen on top Mount Sinai were, in fact, twenty thousand, even thousands of angels in chariots. This is exactly how Yeshua will return to earth in the second advent with thousands of angels in chariots like fire.
So in the scene on top of Mount Sinai when Jesus Christ came with his ten thousand and thousands of angels as a cloud of fire and smoke with the children of Israel below the mountain; the same scene was also repeated by Jesus Christ on top of the Mount with his disciples coming up to him and the multitudes below the mountain to hear him speak.
Both Come as a Package Deal (Either wholly accepted or rejected)
Finally, James 2:10 tells us the following about the Ten Commandments, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all”. When you offend in one of them, you offend in all of them. This implies that there is an implicit link between all of the Ten Commandments (which is called the perfect law of liberty[5]); from the first commandment through to the tenth commandment. It is like a domino effect in which if one falls all the others fall as well. If this is the case for the Ten Commandments, then so must it be in the Sermon of the Mount; because it is written and delivered by the same author Yeshua HaMashiach and that is how he operates.[6] Every author has his or her writing style and so does our Lord Jesus Christ. In the subsequent articles on the sermon of the mount, we will also show that all the nine Beatitudes are also linked together exactly like the Ten Commandments. This is a revelation by the Grace of God.[7]
The Key or Spark to Understanding the Sermon on the Mount

The key to understanding the Sermon on the Mount and the 10 Commandments lies in the meaning of the first statement (Preamble) Yeshua makes. In the Ten commandments is starts, “I am the Lord thy God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the House of Bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me”. Without understanding, believing, and accepting the truth in this first statement the rest of the commandments would not hold as they hinge on the first statement’s truth. There will be no need for the other commandments without the first statement.
In the first commandment, YHVH sets out the condition for the covenant which he commands us: Because it is, He who through the death of the first-born son in Egypt and the Red Sea, brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, out of physical bondage and servitude and gave them freedom. And on that basis, he asks them to obey his commandments.
The same holds true for the Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven”. It is through the blood of Yeshua, (that is the Spirit) and Water that we are rescued from the spiritual bondage to the elements of this world.[8] In Galatians 4:3, “Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world”, the whole world has become our spiritual Egypt when we are in sin. Therefore, if we do not understand or believe that we are poor in Spirit, then we shall not inherit the kingdom of Heaven, and thus not inherit any of the remaining blessings in the Sermon on the Mount!
Without understanding and believing the first statement, the rest do not hold true. That is why understanding the meaning of the first statement, the Preamble, is key to unlocking the golden treasure of Blessings in the Sermon on the Mount. It is based on the first statement that the rest holds for the Sermon on the Mount. And we are going to see that each statement of the Sermon on the Mount is linked to the next like climbing a staircase upwards, we go step by step.
We cannot have the succeeding step without the predecessor step. With that, we are quickly going to ascend the steps of the Mount to understand what the Lord is telling us.

[8] Galatians 4:3-9 and Isaiah 19:1 tells us the world at the coming of Yeshua is likened to Egypt (Symbolically) due the bondage of Sin and Satan. But through the blood (which is the Spirit, as the spirit is life, and the life is in the Blood) of Yeshua, the First Born and Water Baptism (verily verily I say unto you unless you are born of water and the Spirit you cannot enter the kingdom of God John 3:5). That is why the children of Israel passed through the Water of the Red Sea and it was only after that they were redeemed from Pharaoh and His armies. (1 Corinthians 10:1-2)
